The University of Saint Francis’ recently expanded Crown Point campus will be getting some upgrades.

Students and college representatives accepted a $225,000 grant from U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan, which will support purchase of lab equipment and supplies for a new nursing simulation lab and ultrasound lab facility. The money was part of a $45 million community project funding request by Mrvan, which was included in the recently approved 2022 federal appropriations legislation.

“USF Crown Point continues to grow and respond to the needs of northwest Indiana, both in terms of developing citizens and developing healthcare in this area of Indiana,” said USF President Rev. Dr. Eric Albert Zimmer. “We’re expanding our facility and outreach to the community and all these things show a bright, bright future not just for USF Crown Point, but for this part of our great state.”

USF doubled the size of its Crown Point campus at 12880 Mississippi Parkway as part of a $7 million expansion dedicated late last summer. The project allowed for the addition of more programs including surgical technology, radiologic technology, diagnostic medical sonography and advanced medical imaging, which were identified as high-demand jobs in the Region by the college.

“This is a check with dollar amount but, more importantly, it gives hope and promise to students and to our healthcare providers,” Mrvan said.
