The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra has chosen Jared Coller as its new education manager.
Coller's experience as the band director of Rensselaer middle and high schools will help him keep in contact with all of the music directors in the Region. Part of his job will be to keep them informed about the LCSO's many opportunities and events.
“Jared will bring a passion for music education to this position,” said Tim King, LCSO executive director, in a press release. “His experience as an educator as well as his vast network of contacts in the Region will help to further our ‘new generations' initiative.”
King said donors to the “music forever” campaign helped make the position possible.
Coller, who also is a percussion section member of the LCSO, said while it will be difficult to leave his students, this new opportunity offers a chance to influence the entire community.
“I am very excited for this next step that will allow me the opportunity to cultivate the next generation of artists, leaders, audiences and culturally aware citizens,” Coller said.
Coller also will organize the Drayton Family Education Concerts, coordinate the Student Apprentice Program, serve as the LCSO’s liaison with Drew’s Gift of Music, organize the small ensemble offerings of the LCSO, and serve as the coordinator for the Steck Family Music Education Fund.
Coller earned a bachelor's degree in music industry from Valparaiso University.
The LCSO also is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of concerts this year.
