Franciscan Health is getting ready to begin building its new $200 million hospital in Crown Point.
Hospital officials and community leaders will break ground on the new hospital at 3 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the site on the southeast corner of I-65 and U.S. 231. The event will take place behind the Franciscan Health Franciscan Point building, 12800 Mississippi Parkway.
The new hospital will be part of a larger development announced in September 2019. The 500-plus-acre development also could also be the home for a new Andrean High School campus as well as residential housing, retail, and commercial buildings.
The new Franciscan hospital is expected to be completed in late 2023. The project site also is home to Franciscan Health Franciscan Point and the University of St. Francis facility, which recently announced a $7 million expansion, which will add 19,000 square feet of academic space, doubling the size of the college’s existing facility.
The current Franciscan Health Crown Point at 1201 S. Main St. will continue operating as the new hospital is being built. Franciscan officials have said it’s likely once the new Crown Point hospital opens, the current hospital site will be used to house administrative and clinical services and possibly other new educational partnerships.
