Discount grocer ALDI is set to reopen its renovated Gary store May 26.

The remodeling of the Gary location at 3311 Grant St. is part of a companywide initiative to renovate and expand its existing U.S. stores. The retailer operates 2,200 stores across the U.S., including 81 in Indiana.

“We have invested in remodeling our stores to ensure they are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” said Laura Bauer, Greenwood regional vice president for ALDI. “With the updated Gary store, shoppers will notice a new look with more fresh and convenient items at the reliably low prices ALDI fans rave about.”

ALDI will host a ribbon cutting at its Gary location at 8:30 a.m., May 26. The retailer also will give away a $500 ALDI gift card during the event.

ALDI is on track to open 150 new stores by the end of the year.

The updated Gary store provides an enhanced layout and expanded refrigeration to accommodate a larger fresh food selection. It also features open ceilings and natural lighting, and it is built with environmentally friendly materials.

Like all ALDI stores, the remodeled Gary location still offers a streamlined shopping experience but customers will notice the elevated design, representatives said.

ALDI stores are designed for simplicity and efficiency. A typical ALDI store is about 12,000 square feet.
