HOBART – SRS Distribution of Texas has acquired Hobart Roofing and Supply which has offices in Hobart and Valparaiso. Hobart Roofing and Supply, which has 28 employees, distributes roofing, siding and windows. The company was founded in 1949 and is owned by Jack Ronneau and Rod Ruess, who will remain with SRS.

MISHAWAKA – AM General, which manufactures the military HUMVEE, has laid off 400 employees. The workers, who had just returned to week following a two-month layoff, will be out of work until at least March. BURNS HARBOR – Indiana Flame, which provides steel slab cutting equipment to steel mills, has announced a $14 million expansion for its operations in Burns Harbor and Gary. The project is expected to create 24 new jobs, bringing total employment to 66 by 2015. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is providing $240,000 in training grants.
GARY – Ozinga Indiana Ready Mix Concrete has received a $140,384 grant to convert six of its diesel trucks to run on compressed natural gas.
