Supervalu puts Jewel-Osco up for sale

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – Supervalu, the parent company for Jewel-Osco, has announced that it has put the grocery and drug store chain up for sale. The announcement came a day after Supervalu reported its first quarter earnings fell 45 percent.

In addition to Jewel-Osco, the company also owns Albertsons, Acme, Cub, Shaw’s, Save-a-Lot and Shop ’N Save.

Jewel has 180 locations, mostly in Illinois, although it has five stores in Northwest Indiana in Michigan City, Chesterton, Crown Point, Munster and Dyer.
