SOUTH LAKE COUNTY – The Crown Point Community Foundation awarded $95,000 in grants to the community as part of its February 1st grant cycle. These 30 grants enriched the lives of residents throughout South Lake County, from helping the Cedar Lake Police Department to supporting exceptional learners at Crown Point High School through its “Bulldog Bucks” program.
Unrestricted community grants are made possible by donors who create funds to support South Lake County community causes and entrust the CPCF to allocate those funds to the greatest need.
Below are the recipients of the February 1st grant cycle:
American Cancer Society – $3,600
Funding for T-shirts for Relay For Life.
American Legion Post #20 – $3,000
For major repairs to cooling system for storage of drink vendors.
Cats of St. Francis – $1,000
For off-setting cost of general and emergency vet services.
Cedar Lake Historical Assoc. – $6,576
To enhance the special events facilities with a temperature control system in the conference room and kitchen improvements.
Cedar Lake Ministries – $2,583
American Ninja Warrior obstacle course, zip line system, several water sports and other activities for campers.
Cedar Lake Police Dept. – $2,759
20 Urban ERT Slings and 20 Streamlight Weapon Lights for Patrol Rifles
Chasing Dreams, Inc. – $2,550
Subsidize their Summer Camp.
CP 4th of July Celebration Committee – $1,800
4th of July Celebration activities including Jesse White Tumblers and DJ.
CPCSC/CPHS AP Exams – $3,000
AP Exams for students with financial needs.
CPCSC/CPHS Bulldog Workshop – $1,000
Provide exceptional learners at CPHS the financial support to continue the “Bulldog Bucks” program.
CPCSC/CPHS Project Lead the Way – $1,600
Purchase a water bottle filling station at CPHS as a class project.
CPCSC/Challenge Education Program – $2,500
Train teachers and students in cooperative learning strategies to help develop student leaders within each middle school.
Fair Haven Center for Women – $3,750
Purchase workbooks for the “Think First and Stay Safe” program at Hanover, Tri-Creek and Crown Point schools.
Franciscan Health Foundation Safe Kids Day Program – $3,000
Sponsor the annual NWI Safe Kids Day on April 28, 2018.
Honor Flight Chicago – $11,100
Underwrite the cost of flying 12 veterans from CP area to Washington DC.
Lake County Historical Museum – $3,300
Cataloging and archiving several historical collections and printing 2 brochures.
Lake/Porter Co. Chapter Compassionate Friends – $840
Print a newsletter which provides source of revenue.
Masonic Temple Assoc. of Crown Point – $2,500
Needed repairs on the exterior of the building.
Merrillville Rotary Club Charities – $2,000
Provide 100 $75 Winter Clothing Vouchers to CP/CL students eligible for assistance.
Pack Away Hunger – $5,000
Purchase items to distribute through food pantries in Lake Co.
Pathway to Adventure/BSA – $5,000
4-district camporee for local Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venturers.
Phil’s Friends – $2,000
Provide care packages to those affected by cancer.
Prevent Child Abuse Lake County – $1,170
Support “Chairish the Children” art project.
South Point Baptist Church, Inc. – $2,500
Ramps to meet ADA requirements.
South Shore Arts – $4,000
Support the CP location by purchasing educational supplies.
Southlake Children’s Choir – $4,000
Off-set financial obligations of membership.
St. John’s United Church of Christ- $4,700
Improve the physical building which serves child care, mental health counseling and food ministry.
TradeWinds Services – $2,500
Help purchase a pre-owned mid size SUV for nursing staff to transport clients to and from medical appts.
Tri Town Safety Village – $3,310
Safety program for all CP 2nd grade students.
City of CP/Interactive Art – $2,400
Pro Active Grant to sponsor the “Art in Point” summer art display.
The Crown Point Community Foundation (CPCF) awards grants from the unrestricted funds held in the CPCF Endowment Fund three times a year. The three application cycles are February 1st, June 1st and September 1st. Applications received after the deadline will be held for consideration during the following cycle. Only one grant application per organization or agency will be eligible within a 12-month period. The CPCF Grant Committee reviews all applications.
