Attorneys deliver TED Talk

Attorneys Michael Tolbert and Shelice Tolbert of Gary-based Tolbert & Tolbert law firm recently delivered their first TED Talk at TEDx Gary.

Hosted at Indiana University Northwest, the Tolberts’ presentation addressed how the Black community and the world can potentially be transformed through the support of positive content creation.

“Did you know that Blacks consume more media content, per week, than any other US group?” Michael Tolbert said. “Oftentimes, this content is designed to encourage relationship disruption in our communities resulting in 48% of Blacks never marrying and having a higher divorce rate than their counterparts leading to diminished economic power.”

The Tolberts joined a host of community leaders who delivered TED Talks on various topics.

“It was an incredible experience,” Shelice Tolbert said. “We were able to present important information in an environment where it was well received.”

A final edited version of the TED Talk is slated to be released at a later date.

The Tolberts have received community recognition in recent months. The YWCA of NWI presented Shelice Tolbert with the Women Who Lead Award at their annual Circle of Friends Gala. The Tolberts also received a Community Impact Award at the Gary International Black Film Festival. The award is presented to individuals who have made a significant difference in the city of Gary and the broader community through philanthropy, volunteerism and support.
