CEDAR LAKE – Strack & Van Til has broken ground on a new supermarket in Cedar Lake. The store will be build at 133rd and Parrish avenues. The supermarket replaces a Wilco Foods store that closed in 2010. When Strack & Van Til opens early in 2013, it will be the company’s 16th store. The
MERRILLVILLE – Muller Acura of Merrillville has opened on U.S. 30. Manager Glenn Muller said the dealership sells both new and used cars. The new $10 million dealership has 30,000 square feet and sits on eight acres. Muller Acura was founded by Muller’s father, Mike, 40 years ago.
GARY – U.S. Steel Corp.’s Gary Works has been named in a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for violating provision of the Clean Art Act. The lawsuit claims an upgrade in the No. 4 blast furnace at the mill in 1990 increased the emissions of nitric oxide, sulfur dioxide and particulate matter.
MERRILLVILLE – Northern Indiana Public Service Company has named the recipients of its first Luminary Awards, which were created as part of the utility’s 100th anniversary. BREMEN – Bremen Castings Inc. and Status Quo Sucks have named Timothy Clifford as director of machining. Most recently, Clifford was manufacturing/scheduling manager at Hess Industries. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla and received a certificate in executive management from the University of Notre Dame. Clifford and his family live in Granger.
