HAMMOND – The PFX Professional Softball Tour team will compete against amateur girls softball players from Indiana and Illinois in a 61-team tournament set for Crown Point, Merrillville and Cedar Lake from June 10-12.
More than 20 nationally recognized collegiate stars will compete, including three-time Olympic gold medalist and 2010 NCAA Division 1 Champion Lisa Fernandez. International stars Danielle Steward, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games bronze medalist from Australia; Jen Yee, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games from Canada; and Ruby Rojas, 2008 Beijing Games from Venezuela, will take part.
More than 900 athletes and 2,500 visitors are expected to attend. The economic impact on the area, according to the South Shore CVA is $75,000.
