Leon’s Triathlon marks 30th anniversary

HAMMOND – Northwest Indiana will host the 30th anniversary of the world’s fastest triathlon on Sunday, June 2, with the running of Leon’s Triathlon.

Last year’s race had 750 triathletes from around the nation compete, said organizer Leon Wolek, who is the founder of the event.

Leon’s Triathlon is an Olympic distance race beginning and ending at Wolf Lake, including a .9 mile swim, 24.6 mile biking race and a 6.2 running competition. Participants can register through May 5 for $155, or register late until race day for $165.
