SOUTH BEND – A multi-million expansion and upgrade of Coveleski Stadium in downtown South Bend appears to be paying dividends.
Since the stadium opened this year for play for the South Bend Silverhawks, attendance has jumped from 41,000 to 79,000, including two sellouts.
If that continues, total attendance for the season would top 157,000, well over the target of 125,000. Anything over 125,000 and South Bend receives a dividend of 25 cents per person. The stadium is managed by the South Bend Parks Department.
