The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte awarded the Lubeznik Center for the Arts with a $15,000 grant to paint a mural at the Holy Family Parish Formation Center on the St. Joseph campus in La Porte.

Indiana artist Felix Maldonado Jr. created the design for the mural after a series of community meetings. Painting is scheduled to begin in August.

“Murals in our community bring a vibrancy to our surroundings,” said Janet Bloch, executive director of LCA, in a press release. “The city of La Porte already has a brilliant downtown mural, but why stop there? Murals done with public participation give expression to those whose voices are often not heard, and that is something we care about at LCA.”

The center's mural project began in 2022. The Holy Family Parish mural is the fourth in the series.

The Lubeznik Center for the Arts is a nonprofit at 101 W. 2nd St. in Michigan City. Its mission is to provide exhibits and programming that offer insight into contemporary ideas.
