Community members have the opportunity to choose the slogan that best represents their town.

“I am excited to work with the residents on this project,” said Rhonda Neal, town council vice president, in a press release. “Engaging the community in choosing a new town slogan is a great way to foster local pride and involvement.”

The town asked residents to provide ideas for a new slogan. Over 40 entries were submitted.

“We had quite a few,” said Rick Bella, town council president. “I was really impressed.”

Merrillville officials narrowed the suggestions down to five options. Now residents can cast their votes to pick the slogan they like best.

The options include:

  • Merrillville is not a Place, It's a People
  • Merrillville: Community, Progress, Possibilities
  • Merrillville, Indiana – Unity in Diversity
  • Merrillville, The Heart of the Region
  • Merrillville, Rooted in Tradition, Growing in Unity

“There are some very nice ones to choose from,” Neal said.

Voting will continue for up to three weeks. The option that receives the most votes will be Merrillville’s new slogan. The winning slogan will be incorporated into the town’s welcome signage. It will also be featured on Merrillville’s website and social media pages.

Merrillville officially became a town under Indiana state statute in 1971. The town has 35,000 residents and 12,000 individual households. The population grows to an estimated 100,000 due to shoppers and workers throughout the town on weekdays.
