Farpoint Development announced its agreement with Marriott International to open a Renaissance Hotel as the hospitality anchor of SoLa in Michigan City.
SoLa is Farpoint’s new community with 170 condominiums, 18 townhomes, vacation rentals and retail options on the southern shore of Lake Michigan. Located in downtown Michigan City at Franklin Street and Michigan Boulevard, SoLa encompasses 2.8 acres in the city’s Uptown Arts District. The 12-story hotel will span the east side of SoLa.
“This collaboration with Marriott sets a new benchmark for lifestyle-focused residential development along the southern shores of Lake Michigan, blending elevated design, renowned hospitality service and true resort-style living,” said Scott Goodman, Farpoint Development founding principal, in a press release. “Renaissance is a luxury brand focused on a rich experience for guests, which aligns perfectly with our vision for SoLa to be a world-class destination for residents and vacationers alike.”
The Renaissance Hotel at SoLa is planned to offer 240 rooms, including 24 suites, on-site parking and amenities like a spa, fitness center and indoor pool with a retractable glass wall opening onto a lakeside terrace. A restaurant with an open-air dining deck overlooking the lake will occupy the hotel’s 12th floor. A ballroom and meeting spaces will be one flight below.
“Having an on-site hotel of this caliber is a win for travelers and a game-changer for SoLa residents,” Goodman said. “From access to top-tier restaurants and event space with sweeping views of the lake to a place for overflow guests to stay just steps from your front door, it’s about enhancing everyday living with resort-style convenience.”
SoLa’s for-sale condominiums will be housed in two towers along its south and west sides, while the townhomes will be located along the north and west sides of the project. Connecting the residences with the Renaissance Hotel is a parking garage. The garage rests below an outdoor resident-only deck with a four-season pool and hot tub area, lounge seating, fire pits, a dog walk and dog wash station and landscaped areas for year-round activities. SoLa will also have 21,000 square feet of retail space.
Construction on SoLa is planned to begin in January 2026 and take about two years. The development is expected to create 275 permanent, full-time jobs and hundreds of seasonal positions.
