Crossroads Chamber of Commerce is hosting an AI technology panel and business expo on May 21.

The event is part of the chamber’s monthly membership program and Unlocking Tomorrow for Business Today annual business expo.

“May 21 is the day we underscore our commitment to empowering businesses in Northwest Indiana with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in today's dynamic landscape,” said Deann Patena, Crossroads chamber president and CEO, in a press release.

The panel will feature professors Rajan Kini of Indiana University Northwest, Sami Khorbotly of Valparaiso University and Spiros Bamiatzis of Ivy Tech Community College. Stephen Muenstermann, Cloudbusters president, will moderate the panel. They will discuss AI's historical roots, current trends, future trajectory and impact on business.

“In the next decade, adopting AI methods and tools is not an option but a necessity for the survival of any organization,” Khorbotly said. “Refusing to embrace AI in the 2020s is analogous to refusing to use electricity in the 1920s.”

The business expo will follow the panel discussion. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a variety of businesses and network with industry peers.

The day kicks off at 11:15 a.m., with lunch and the panel discussion from noon to 1 p.m. The expo will run from 1 to 4 p.m. A business after-hours event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. The chamber will host all events at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center in Merrillville.
