Residents in Valparaiso now have access to Surf Internet's multi-gig, fiber-optic internet services that will deliver speeds up to 2 gigs.

The Elkhart-based company was joined by community and business officials Aug. 15 for a ribbon cutting at Central Park Plaza.

“Multi-gig internet speeds are no longer a pipe dream for underserved residents. They are a present, transformative reality, ” said Surf CEO Gene Crusie in a press release. “We are proud to have worked diligently with the city of Valparaiso and the people at ValpoNet to make modern amenities available to all.”

A strong demand from the community for high-speed broadband was the catalyst for the company's $20 million investment. Some customers will have access immediately with expansion of service in the next 18 months. Construction is expected to be complete by 2025.

Surf also collaborated with ValpoNet to connect Valparaiso schools to fiber internet services in 2020.

“Through this initiative, students, business owners and residents all have exceptionally fast access to the most critical connection point to our digital world: the internet,” Crusie said.

Surf Internet also has construction projects in Portage and South Haven. The company plans to expand their fiber footprint over the next year into Hobart, Gary and Crown Point.

Surf Internet serves Michigan, Indiana and Illinois, with offices in Elkhart and La Porte, among others. It has 170 employees.
