Since 2015, Cody Newport has impressed his clients – and his bosses at South Bend-based Kruggel Lawton CPAs.

His reward is a promotion to partner in the accounting firm's audit and assurance practice, effective Jan. 1, 2024. He is the 16th partner at the company.

“Since joining the firm in 2015, Cody has found his niche serving our manufacturing clients and has been a dedicated mentor to many of our younger staff,” said Barry Hall, managing partner, in a press release. “His passion for professional development and early-adopter mindset further supports and strengthens our mission to provide a world-class client experience.”

Newport, who has 10 year of experience, focuses on audit, review and compilation  engagements. He serves companies of all sizes.

“Cody’s promotion to partner is well-deserved,” said Kurt Kruggel, partner and CPA. “His team-focused mindset, technical ability and dedication to serving our clients at the highest level will have a tremendous impact on the firm for many years to come.”

Newport said the firm has given him many opportunities to expand his skills.

“Kruggel Lawton has provided exciting challenges and opportunities for me while supporting a  work-life balance that allows me the flexibility I need with small children at home,” he said. “I am excited to help as we  continue our growth into a professional services firm of the future while maintaining the culture and values that make KL a wonderful place to work.”

Newport earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on accounting and finance from Valparaiso University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society, where he was a graduate of the Young Pros Leadership Academy. He also was named an emerging leader by the group in 2022.

Newport is the treasurer of the Goshen Community Schools Foundation and a board member for the Goshen Public Library.
