Lighthouse Restaurant welcomes new owner

Chef Chris Pappas, owner of Crown Point-based Meraki Hospitality Group, is purchasing Cedar Lake’s Lighthouse Restaurant.

Pappas is buying the restaurant from a remaining LLC associated with the restaurant’s late founder, Dean White. A Northwest Indiana native and resident, Pappas will take the reins of the restaurant and wedding venue Aug. 11.

White was the original owner of Lighthouse Restaurant. White Lodging took over management of the restaurant in 2016 following his passing.

“It is an immense honor to continue the legacy of the White family and Lighthouse Restaurant,” Pappas said in a press release. “Meraki’s goal is to honor the rich history and traditions of this beloved establishment, while simultaneously enhancing the culinary experience and overall quality for guests.”

Dana Hernandez has been with Lighthouse Restaurant since 2010 as general manager. She called the ownership change an exciting milestone in the history of the restaurant.

“My biggest priorities are our staff and our guests, and I know these are Meraki’s priorities as well,” Hernandez said. “I’m pleased to know that Lighthouse Restaurant will remain local, and family owned, with this transition.”

At 7501 Constitution Ave. in Cedar Lake, Lighthouse Restaurant is a two story, 11,600- square-foot building on the lake. It features a restaurant and bar with seating for up to 250 guests on the first floor. The second floor offers a private dining facility for weddings and special events with a wood dance floor surrounded by window views.

Meraki Hospitality Group already has a presence in the community. The group operates Crown Point’s Provecho Latin Provisions, Ramen District, The Grand Catering + Events and Pappas Restaurant & Bar. Parisi’s Italian Kitchen, Pappas’ newest restaurant, is slated to open at the end of the summer.
