St. Catherine Hospital earns echocardiography accreditation

East Chicago-based St. Catherine Hospital has earned a three-year accreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for adult transthoracic echocardiography.

The hospital joins Powers Health sister hospitals Community Hospital in Munster and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart in achieving the national accreditation.

Echocardiography is used to assess different areas of the heart. It can detect heart disease or signs of cardiovascular conditions.

There are many factors that contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on echocardiography. The training and experience of the sonographer performing the procedure, the type of equipment used and the quality assessment metrics each facility is required to measure all contribute to the patient outcome.

“This accreditation is further proof of the high-quality care and treatment our patients receive,” said Dale O’Donnell, Powers Health vice president of cardiology services, in a press release.
