Merrillville-based Regional Health Systems opened a new Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit at its Merrillville Care Center location.
Community leaders and local law enforcement gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 16. Attendees also toured the Crisis Receiving and Mental Health Stabilization Services Program. The program will provide crisis support to youth and adults.
“The goal is to help de-escalate the situation, determine what is causing the current crisis episode and work with the individual to create a path forward to a state of well-being,” said Eric Evans, vice president of business development, in a press release.
Regional Health Systems aims to provide effective interventions and support during critical periods of distress. It will work with community partners, stakeholders and government agencies to ensure a collaborative approach to crisis response and support.
“This new facility will provide a safe and supportive environment for those in crisis to receive the support they need and help them begin the journey to recovery,” said Indiana Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch.
The Crisis Receiving and Mental Health Stabilization Services Program was funded by a grant from the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Mental Health and Addiction, the American Rescue Plan Act and the National Opioid Settlement.
Regional Health Systems provides community-based mental health care, primary health care and addiction treatment services. It serves insured and uninsured adults and children. Regional Health Systems is a member of the Regional Care Group.
