UChicago Medicine primary care coming to Valparaiso

The University of Chicago Medicine's medical group is opening a primary care location in Valparaiso.

Two providers will be on site. Scheduling is already available at 1231 Cumberland Crossing Drive. Visits will begin May 4, according to UChicago's website.

Brett McDermott of Crown Point-based Latitude Commercial represented the landlord of the property.

“We are exciting to finalize the lease with the University of Chicago and bring a great tenant into the center,” McDermott said in a press release. “They are growing their presence throughout Northwest Indiana, and they will serve the community for years to come.”

UChicago also operates a Cancer Care Center at 2505 Valley Drive in Valparaiso. Four doctors take appointments at the location.

UChicago Medicine announced in October an expansion of its Crown Point facility to meet the demand for care in the Region.

“We’re very excited with how Northwest Indiana has embraced us in the community,” said Lauren Hull, chief administrative officer for Northwest Indiana, in an October press release

An assessment of the market forecast over 110,000 patients using the Crown Point care center each year. Prior to Crown Point’s opening, about 15% of patients in Northwest Indiana were traveling outside of the Region for medical care. About one in five people in that group were visiting a UChicago Medicine facility in Chicago or the neighboring suburbs.

UChicago Medicine also has a location at 800 Indian Boundary Road in Chesterton. Two cardiologists staff the office. A maternal-fetal doctor, who cares for patients with high-risk pregnancies, has an office in Munster.
