New Beginnings Clubhouse opens workforce center

The New Beginnings Clubhouse in Merrillville celebrated the grand opening of its Education and Workforce Empowerment Center on May 28.

The Legacy Foundation’s Transform Lake County grant helped make the space possible, including technology and furniture. The New Beginnings Clubhouse is a program of Regional Health Systems.

The center will provide job coaching, resume writing, interview preparation and GED support, among other learning opportunities.

“This investment has strengthened our ability to offer GED preparation, digital literacy and employment support, creating meaningful pathways to independence,” said Dayna Davis, New Beginnings Clubhouse program director, in a press release. “Legacy Foundation’s commitment has been instrumental in transforming this vision into a tangible resource for the community.”

The clubhouse at 107 W. 79th Ave. in Merrillville, offers adults living with mental illness opportunities to reintegrate into their communities. It opened in 2006 as the Leading Edge Clubhouse. In 2020, it earned conditional accreditation from Clubhouse International. It is one of 12 facilities in Indiana.
