Franciscan Health Munster dedicates new mosaic

Franciscan Health leaders gathered in Munster to dedicate a new St. Francis mosaic.

The mosaic, which depicts St. Francis, was blessed and dedicated during a ceremony in October at the hospital.

The colorful mosaic was commissioned by Pete Nau Sr. and Debbie Nau, husband and wife. The artwork was developed in memory of Pete’s parents, Mike and Patricia Nau. The Nau family wanted to honor Mike’s philanthropic spirit.

Mike Nau served on the St. Margaret’s Citizen’s board of directors. He also owned Hammond Machine Works, a business the Nau family continues to run.

The mosaic was created by David Lee Csicsko, a Hammond native. Csicsko is an internationally recognized designer and artist who lives and works in Chicago. He has created stained glass and mosaic artwork for private homes and for hospitals, universities, elementary schools and churches.

Csicsko worked with Florin Vistian and Alsonsa Burcheri Vistian, a husband-and-wife team, to create the artwork. The Vistians are from Assisi, Italy —the birthplace of St. Francis.
