Community Hospital has received accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.

The American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery jointly oversee the program.

The Munster hospital joins Powers Health sister hospital St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart in achieving this national distinction.

The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program is aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. Surgical outcomes focus on weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases, like diabetes and sleep apnea.

“Powers Health surgical weight-loss services in Hobart and Munster provide tailored support and experts who understand the complexities of weight loss,” said Dr. Paul Stanish, Powers Health Bariatric Services medical director, in a press release. “After providing these effective procedures, our team helps patients commit to lifelong lifestyle changes, including healthy eating and physical activity, to maintain their weight loss and overall health.”

Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies a hospital’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches. The designation lets patients know Powers Health has been verified or accredited by the American College of Surgeons.

“ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality,” Dr. Patricia Turner, ACS executive director and CEO, said. “As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Powers Health has shown a commitment providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement.”

Powers Health is comprised of Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center and Powers Health Rehabilitation Center. It was formerly known as Community Healthcare System.
