Lakeshore Public Media will commemorate 15 years of public media in Northwest Indiana with a special event.

The organization is hosting a business after hours for business community members. The celebration will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 17 at their station at 8625 Indiana Place in Merrillville.

The celebration honors Lakeshore Public Media's commitment to the community and gratitude for their continuous support. Held in partnership with the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, the event fosters networking for community business members, leaders and entrepreneurs.

“Making it 15 years is a great accomplishment for any business, but this is an even greater community accomplishment in public broadcasting,” said Chuck Roberts, president and CEO of Lakeshore Public Media, in a press release. “Our public and community are the most important funders and supporters for what we bring to the table in broadcast technologies.”

Attendees can meet Lakeshore Public Media team members and take behind-the-scenes station tours. Merrillville-based restaurant Asparagus is catering the event. Strack & Van Till is donating desserts.

“Take this opportunity to meet the team here in Merrillville that has kept the tower pumping out local radio content for the past 15 years,” Roberts said.

Lakeshore Public Media also is partnering with Albanese Confectionery to offer listeners a 1-pound box of chocolates after they commit to a one-time gift of $150 or a monthly contribution of $12.50 to the station.

“Albanese is excited to partner with Lakeshore Public Media for the Chocolate Challenge,” said Jenn Santelik, retail general manager for Albanese Confectionery, in a press release. “It is important to us to connect and give back to our local community. Lakeshore Public Media plays a major role in connecting the residents in our community.”

Lakeshore Public Media broadcasts on Lakeshore PBS. Radio listeners can tune in on Lakeshore Public Media 89.1 FM. The station is part of the Indiana Public Broadcasting System.

The Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce is based in Hammond. The organization promotes economic development in East Chicago, Hammond and Northwest Indiana. They offer a variety of programs and services.
