Dance Theatre of Harlem to visit IUN

The Dance Theatre of Harlem is hosting a day of programming at Indiana University Northwest Feb. 25.

Members from the Dance Theatre of Harlem, an American professional ballet company and school, will offer a dance workshop and panel discussion. The discussion will focus on successful professional careers in the arts.

Their visit is part of a weeklong state-wide residency with stops in Indianapolis, Greensburg and Bloomington. They will culminate with a performance at IU Bloomington March 1.

The programming at IU Northwest Feb. 25 will include:

  • Dancing in the Streets Workshop: 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at the Moraine Student Center, IU Northwest. Attendees can participate in a ballet warmup with Dance Theatre of Harlem company members and learn steps from resident choreographer Robert Garland.
  • Panel Discussion – In Motion: A Conversation with Dance Theatre of Harlem: 1 to 2 p.m. at the Bergland Auditorium, Savannah Center, IU Northwest. Attendees can listen to a panel discussion with Dance Theatre of Harlem artists, and IU Northwest and IU alumni as they discuss their careers in the arts.

Dance Theatre of Harlem is based in Harlem, New York City. The company tours nationally and internationally. It performs classics, neoclassical works as contemporary works that use the language of ballet to celebrate the belief that ballet belongs to everyone.
