It's official! Michael and Shelice Tolbert are officially super lawyers! The power couple is featured on the cover of the 2026 digital issue of “Indiana Super Lawyers.”
“We thank God for this opportunity and ‘Super Lawyers' magazine for recognizing the work of our firm, highlighting our journey, and the commitment to serving our clients with a faith-driven mission,” Attorney Michael Tolbert said in an announcement.
Both lawyers were included on the Indiana Super Lawyers list for 2026.
The Tolberts realized their childhood dream when they founded Gary-based Tolbert & Tolbert law firm in 2015.
The two met when they were in seventh grade at Tolleston Middle School in Gary. But they didn't make a love connection till after law school, Shelice Tolbert said in the “Super Lawyers” article. They married in 2006.
“From the time we were 11 or 12, we always said we’d go to law school and open up a firm in our hometown,” said Michael Tolbert in a 2024 Northwest Indiana Business Magazine special section about African Americans in business.
Michael Tolbert also was featured on the cover of the magazine's 2025 June-July issue. He was quoted in the story “Attorneys on fence about AI.” They also delivered a TED Talk at TEDx Gary last fall.
