The NWI Food Council is hosting a Gather Give Grow: Farm to Feast Fundraiser Nov. 21 at County Line Orchard in Hobart.

Gather Give Grow is a fundraiser and a celebration of local agriculture and community spirit. The event aims to raise funds for the NWI Food Council and bring together food lovers, community leaders, local farmers, families and friends to enjoy an evening for a cause.

Attendees will be able to meet NWI Food Council staff. They can walk through story stations about the Region's farmers, food is medicine projects and farm to school. Each story station will feature a food tasting from Chef Jorge Sullon of Mixtura, Gary Area Career Center students' award winning pumpkin chili shooters, local apple tasting, Great American Cheese Collection selection and a signature cocktail.

Indiana imports 90% of its food, according to the NWI Food Council. The council seeks to uplift farmers and ensure the health of everyone with nutritious local food. Through its Region Roots Food Hub program, the council supports more than 40 farmers in the seven-county region. The foods presented at the Gather Give Grow event are meant to showcase food grown in local communities.

Several regional chefs have supported the local food movement in NWI:

  • Chef Nicole Bissonnette, Fish Camp, Michigan City
  • Chef Tammy Pham, Asparagus, Merrillville
  • Chef Bob McClellan, Fuzzyline Brewing, Highland
  • Chef Nick Alessandri, River Forest Community School Corp., Hobart
  • Chef Lucero Martinez, Donato, IU Northwest, Gary
  • Chef Jorge Sullon, Mixtura, Hebron

The Gather, Give, Grow: Farm to Feast Fundraiser will take place 5:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 21 at County Line Orchard in Hobart. Learn more here.

Funds raised at the event will be used to expand NWI Food Council’s current programs and services. It will also kickstart funding for a brick-and-mortar food hub and community farm. The council aims to build spaces for entrepreneurs and education, provide outdoor spaces for a community farm and foraging and be a hub of community connection and innovation.

The Crown Point-based NWI Indiana Food Council is a nonprofit organization. It serves Northwest Indiana and works to cultivate a just, thriving and regenerative food system for everyone in the Region.
