The American Water Charitable Foundation awarded a $20,000 grant to the Urban League of Northwest Indiana.
“The Urban League of Northwest Indiana appreciates the generous contribution that will support our small business and entrepreneurship initiatives,” said Vanessa McCloud, Urban League of Northwest Indiana president and CEO, in a press release. “We value the support provided by the American Water Charitable Foundation and our local team at Indiana American Water.”
The Urban League will use the funding for workforce development initiatives that help close the equality gap for African Americans and other historically underserved groups throughout the Region.
“By providing this grant, we hope to contribute to the enhancement of social, educational and economic opportunities and create a more equitable and prosperous future for our communities in Northwest Indiana,” Justin Mount, Indiana American Water Northwest operations manager, said.
The grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation 2024 Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program. The program focuses on three pillars of giving: water, people and communities.

American Water is a water and wastewater utility company. Indiana American Water is a subsidiary of American Water. It provides water and wastewater services to about 1.4 million people.
The Urban League of Northwest Indiana promotes neighborhood community collaborations towards the improvement, capacity building and awareness of citizens in areas of education, financial literacy, health, leadership and diversity. The Urban League of Northwest Indiana serves Lake, Porter and La Porte counties.
