Hard Rock donates $25K

Gary-based Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana donated $25,000 to the Gary K9 Association to sponsor the Gary Police Department’s newest K9 officer.

Phouka, Badge #K13, was introduced as the latest addition to the team alongside his partner, Corporal Anne Malinoff. Malinoff has served six years with the Gary Police Department. Phouka was joined by several other members of Gary Police Department’s K9 unit.

“Hard Rock is pleased to fund the acquisition and training of Phouka,” said Matt Schuffert, Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana president, in a press release. “We are committed to do our part to make Gary a safe place to live and work.”

According to Mayor Eddie Melton, “The partnership between the City of Gary and Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana continues to be a driving force in enhancing public safety.  The addition of K9 Officer Phouka and his invaluable skills is a significant win for our police department and the entire community, strengthening our commitment to a safer Gary.”

Gary Police Chief Derrick Cannon added “We are thrilled to officially welcome Phouka, Badge #K13, to the Gary Police Department’s K9 Unit. Phouka brings a new and powerful level of capability that will significantly enhance our crime prevention efforts.”
