Area judge recognized for advocacy

Porter Superior Court 4 Judge Christopher Buckley received an award for his dedication to mental health advocacy.

Buckley will receive the 2025 NAMI Indiana Advocates for Mental Health Justice Executive Advocate for Mental Health Justice Award.

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI is a national mental health organization. It supports the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. The NAMI Indiana Advocates for Mental Health Justice Awards honor leadership, collaboration and dedication to advancing mental health justice.

Buckley has served as the elected judge of the Porter Superior Court 4 since November of 2020. By January 2021, he was serving as judge of the Porter County Mental Health Restoration Court.

“Judge Buckley is a tireless advocate of justice involved persons struggling with mental illness,” said Tammy O’Neill, of Porter County PACT, in a press release. “He strives to be consistently present both locally and across our state to increase awareness and support of issues related to mental health and the importance of Problem-Solving Courts.”

O’Neill nominated Buckley for the award. She said he helps advance practices to shape policy at the state level and increase the effectiveness of Problem-Solving Court programs across Indiana.

“Judge Buckley is the embodiment of the intent of this award,” O’Neill said. “He is a faithful steward of his community’s and state’s trust.”

NAMI Indiana will present the award to Buckley March 7 at its annual conference in Indianapolis.
