Food Council hosts FarmHop

The Crown Point-based NWI Food Council’s annual FarmHop will take place Sept. 12.

FarmHop 2025 is a full-day, behind-the-scenes experience celebrating local food, health and community transformation across the Region. Event attendees can choose from two tours.

On the Farm to School in Action tour, participants can discover how schools and farms are working together. Attendees will have the opportunity tour Perkins Good Earth Farm & Baby Greens Family Farm. After the tour, they can enjoy lunch, prepared by Chef Nick Alessandri, at River Forest School. They will explore the Harrison Elementary School Garden and learn how Region Roots Local Farm & Food Hub connects local farms to schools.

On the Local Food is Medicine tour, participants can learn how women-led farms and health professionals are using food to support families in need. Attendees will meet the Nurse-Family Partnership Team behind the FarmHer to Mama program. They will visit Tuholski Produce and Rainfield Farm, supplying fresh food to WIC-eligible moms. They will also tour Region Roots Local Farm & Food Hub to see how the model is being scaled.

Every tour includes:

  • A locally sourced, chef-prepared lunch
  • Opportunities to meet farmers, educators and health care professionals
  • A first-hand view of how local food is strengthening communities

FarmHop 2025 will take place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at multiple sites across Northwest Indiana. Learn more here.
