A 120-room lodge and conference center is underway at Potato Creek State Park on Worster Lake's southern shore in St. Joseph County.
The facility will be the first constructed from the ground up by Indiana State Parks since 1939. The project will cost about $105 million.
Gov. Eric Holcomb joined park officials for a ground breaking Oct. 19.
Officials chose the Whispering Winds Picnic Area as the site of the lodge for its location near the park entrance and proximity to U.S. 31. The park also has a paved bicycle trail and small boat launch.
The lodge will include 120 rooms, dining room for 150 patrons, conference center, indoor aquatic center, cafe and gift shop, among other amenities.
Completion of the project is not definite, but is anticipated by 2026 or 2027.
Potato Creek was established as a 3,840-acre park in 1969 and was formed by glaciers. It was home to the Potawatomi before European settlement. Worster Lake is 327 acres.
Pokagon State Park is the only other northern Indiana facility with a similar facility, Potawatomi Inn.
