Seven local entrepreneurs recently vied for seed money at Starke Tank, a pitch competition hosted by the Starke County Chamber of Commerce.
The event featured a pitch competition and small business expo. The competition was open to start-up businesses operating no more than three years and new businesses that are not yet operational.
The competition took place inside the North Judson-San Pierre High School Performing Arts Center. Hoping to win money to establish or grow their business in Starke County, entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges.
“It was an inspiring evening full of entrepreneurial energy and big ideas for the future of our county,” the Starke County Chamber of Commerce said.
Smart Choice Disposal took home first place. Judges noted the strong business model and confident presentation. Smart Choice Disposal plans to offer weekly trash pickup services in the Knox/North Judson area.
Hamlet-based Tubby Buddy’s Parlor & Boutique won second place. Judges praised the creativity and community-focused vision of the business. Tubby Buddy’s provides pet supplies and grooming services.
The Starke County Economic Development Foundation presents the Starke Tank pitch competition annually.
