Stephanie Blackstock, executive director of Purdue Northwest’s Gabis Arboretum, announced her resignation, effective April 30.

“It is with mixed emotions that I announce my resignation as the executive director of the Gabis Arboretum,” Blackstock said in a press release. “My decision to step down was not made lightly, but I believe it is the right time for me to prioritize spending more time with my family and focusing on our family business.”

Blackstock served in the position for 15 years.

Sarah Reed will take on the role of interim director at the arboretum. Reed previously served as the grounds and facilities team lead.

Gabis Arboretum is a living laboratory for education, conservation and engagement with the natural environment. The 300-acre arboretum features a restored prairie, gardens, wetlands and hiking trails through woodlands. Damien and Rita Gabis founded the arboretum in the 1990s as the Taltree Arboretum & Gardens. They donated it to the university in 2018.
