Donor participation in Purdue University Northwest’s annual daylong event hit a historic record this year.

Donors recently contributed more than $2 million to support students during the university’s 11th annual Day of Giving. Over 2,000 donations were made during the 24-hour event. The Pride Athletics received nearly 900 gifts alone.

“We deeply appreciate the enthusiastic response of our community to PNW’s annual Day of Giving,” said Lisa Goodnight, vice chancellor of institutional advancement, in a press release.

Gifts to PNW support student scholarships, academic programs, athletics, student organizations and other initiatives. The growth in participation is one of the major achievements of this year’s Day of Giving.

One alumnus bequeathed a gift of $650,000. Others pledged money for scholarships to support students in the College of Nursing and College of Business. Horizon Bank created a scholarship for students in the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. Lakeshore Public Media donated $65,000 to support the partnership with the Roundtable Perspective and the communication students at PNW.

“Day of Giving brings together PNW alumni, leading businesses and charitable organizations, friends of the university from all over the world, and our own students, faculty and staff to invest in our mission to transform lives and Northwest Indiana,” Goodnight said.

Purdue University Northwest has campuses in Hammond and Westville. The university serves nearly 9,000 students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college. Purdue University Northwest has over 70,000 alumni.
