Parents of young children will have a new early childhood education option in Portage as of Dec. 3.

Creekside Early Learning Center will serve up to 130 young children, including infants starting at six weeks. The center will be located at the NEO Center in Portage.

NEO and the Portage Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Creekside Early Learning Center. The event will take place 4:15 p.m. Dec. 3 at 5201 U.S. Highway 6. The public is invited to attend.

Along with educating a wide age range of students, Creekside is also reserving half of its slots for children of financially challenged families.

“Creekside will be a game changer for so many parents, regardless of their financial status,” said Rebecca Reiner, NEO executive director, in a press release.

The center will open as a “Paths to Quality” Level Three ranking on the State of Indiana’s childcare quality rating and improvement system.

“Ensuring parents their children are safe and getting a strong educational foundation is what we are all about,” Angie Scott, Creekside owner, said.

Reiner said that dependable childcare is critical to retaining employees and beneficial to workers when they no longer worry about who’s caring for their children while they are working.

“Providing peace of mind for workers throughout the Region thanks to Creekside Early Learning makes good business sense,” Reiner said.
