CCSJ president to retire

Dr. Amy McCormack, Calumet College St. Joseph president, has announced her retirement, effective June 2026.

McCormack is completing her ninth year in the role. She is the college’s first female president. McCormack leaves behind a legacy of growth.

During her tenure, academic offerings have been expanded, including new master’s degrees in business administration, public administration and exercise and sports science and new bachelor’s degrees in kinesiology and medical lab science. The college has developed a Public Service Institute and Diocesan Scholars program.

McCormack has worked with enrollment leadership and staff to improve student retention through the development of a vibrant campus life. She also supported and expanded CCSJs athletics by founding the Midwest Sprint Football League and inaugurating CCSJ’s Sprint Football team.

McCormack oversaw rebranding efforts, including the creation of the school’s mascot Crimson Joe, and led CCSJ’s “Community as Campus, Campus as Community” initiative to connect the college to its surrounding neighborhoods. She has also overseen campus development projects, such as the construction of CCSJ’s first residence hall, landscaping Alumni Park and development of shared public spaces through partnerships with Whiting and Hammond.

McCormack has played an integral part in setting the institution up for success beyond her presidency. She helped obtain a $2.5 million gift and developed a grants office, which has raised over $31 million for the college in the past five years, including the $15 million Lilly Endowment grant awarded in 2024.

McCormack also opened the doors to allow for new ideas and more perspectives in leadership by developing a board of trustees that reflects the Region’s diverse population.
