Northwest Indiana Forum celebrates governor

More than 300 guests gathered at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City for a Salute to the Governor event Dec. 3.

The event honored Gov. Eric Holcomb’s service and leadership as his term comes to an end. The Porter-based Northwest Indiana Forum hosted the tribute.

The evening featured speeches, a video and remarks from a variety of leaders. Speakers included State Rep. Ed Soliday, Gary Mayor Eddie Melton, Judge Mary DeBoer, Bill Hanna from the Dean and Barbara White Foundation and Heather Ennis from the Northwest Indiana Forum. They praised Holcomb for his efforts to improve Indiana’s economy, infrastructure and quality of life during his time in office.

“We are proud to have been a long-standing partner with Gov. Holcomb in our shared mission to create a brighter future for Indiana,” said Ennis, Northwest Indiana president and CEO, in a press release. “His leadership in fostering growth and opportunity has made a profound difference for Hoosiers.”

Ennis expressed gratitude for the governor’s collaboration on READI 1.0 and READI 2.0. She also noted the increased business attraction the Region has seen in recent years and the commuter rail line improvements.

The Northwest Indiana Forum received funding from both READI 1.0 and READI 2.0. READI funding, which is estimated to generate over $2 billion of direct economic impact to Northwest Indiana.

Ennis said the forum looks forward to continuing its work with local and state leaders to ensure that the momentum built during Holcomb's tenure continues for years to come.
