Jim Rose, who reported on Chicago sports for 41 years, will be the featured speaker at the Gary Chamber of Commerce's 15th annual Lakeshore Classic.
Networking at the luncheon begins at 11 a.m. Nov. 21 at the Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana, 5400 W. 29th Ave.
Rose retired Sept. 15 from ABC 7 Chicago, the ABC affiliate in Chicago. He joined the staff in 1982. He reported on sports during the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.
“The excellence Jim has shown as a reporter in the locker room and behind the anchor desk has been invaluable to us as a station,” said ABC 7 Chicago President and General Manager John Idler in a news report. “But even more important, Jim has served as a role model for countless young men in our community.”
Rose covered the Bears in the Super Bowl, the Bulls' six championships, the Blackhawks' Stanly Cup, and the White Sox and Cubs going to the World Series.
The chamber is a volunteer organization. Business owners, community leaders and residents invest their time to promote economic development in Gary.
Charles Hughes has led the chamber for more than 10 years.
