EAST CHICAGO – The Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana has named Dr. Blake Zuidema of ArcelorMittal’s Global R&D Center as Innovator of the Month for May.
Zuidema helped create stronger steel for automobiles through a two-year development project that included the R&D Center in East Chicago along with the company’s laboratory in Europe.
Zuidema worked closely with customers to find out from them what kind of steel they desired for their cars and then began working to produce that kind of steel. The project resulted in a 14 percent reduction in the body weight of automobiles.
