Whistle blower to speak at Purdue Calumet

HAMMOND – A former chief financial officer-turned-whistleblower of a multi-billion dollar health care corporation will offer an insider’s perspective of corporate fraud at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Purdue University Calumet.

Weston Smith, former CFO of HealthSouth Corp. will deliver his remarks in Alumni Hall at the Student Union and Library. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m.

By 2003 with Smith serving as CFO, HealthSouth had grown into a $4.5 billion owner and operator of rehabilitative hospitals with 2,000 locations in all 50 states. Smith later exposed to the government and took responsibility for his actions a corporate accounting scandal in which employees were directed to falsify reports of corporate earnings to meet stockholder expectations.
