Volunteers are needed to take on more than 40 special projects for non-profit organizations around Northwest Indiana.
The annual Day of Caring event brings together residents and businesses to support the community by assisting area nonprofits with a variety of tasks from building maintenance to collection drives.
The COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing requirements has moved the kickoff breakfast into virtual event, which will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 7.
The United Way of Porter County said there also are a variety of social distancing or remote volunteer opportunities, which can be done at home or through small groups.
“Area nonprofits need our help now more than ever,” said Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “They have been nimble in adjusting with the times and we want to make sure they are still fully supported in their efforts. One of the ways community can do that is through volunteering.”
The United Way of Porter County said 43 projects are available throughout Northwest Indiana during the Day of Caring event. More than 400 volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks from outdoor cleanup, indoor painting, collection drives, donating blood and face mask making.
A total of 570 volunteers took care of 68 projects around the Region in 2019 during the Day of Caring.
Kick-off and volunteer registration is required and is available on the United Way of Porter County’s website.
