Valparaiso University has joined more than 300 other educational institutions across the nation in the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship program.
The program emerged out of a social media campaign led by Temple University to welcome and encourage international students to study in the U.S. The scholarship program provides financial support to incoming international students.
“Valparaiso University is strongly committed to campuswide diversity and inclusion and proud to be part of the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship program,” said Marci Fradkin, director of international outreach and admission. “We hope this scholarship will afford students from around the world the opportunity to bring their own unique experiences, beliefs and background to our close-knit community of students, faculty and staff here at Valpo.”
Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana University-South Bend and Purdue University Northwest also are among the Northwest and Northcentral Indiana colleges that participate in the program.
Beginning in fall 2019, Valparaiso University will award annual, renewable scholarships covering a minimum of 50 percent of tuition costs in recognition of select, promising international students dedicated to strengthening the program’s message. These incoming international students must possess a vision to enhance intercultural understanding and delineate the ways in which they intend to bridge intercultural divides and therefore advance intercultural learning and understanding at Valparaiso University and in their future careers.
