MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Representatives of the United Steelworkers and ArcelorMittal has begun negotiations for a new labor contract. The current contract between the USW and the world’s largest steelmakers expires Sept. 1.
The contract covers 14,000 workers, including those at two facilities in East Chicago, one in Gary, one in Burns Harbor and one in New Carlisle.
Wages and benefits are the key issues, including a company proposal to cut hourly wages and retirement benefits.
