United Way names 2013 leadership

GRIFFITH – New officers, committee chairs and members have been elected to Lake Area United Way’s 2013 volunteer Board of Trustees.

The 2013 Chair of Lake Area United Way’s Board of Trustees will be Jeremy Miller, regional vice president, Centier Bank. He succeeds Kay Nelson, director of environmental affairs, Northwest Indiana Forum.

“It’s truly an honor to serve as the board chair for Lake Area United Way in 2013. I’m humbled to join the long line of community leaders that have led this great organization. My hope is to continue encouraging local residents to ‘Live United’ by giving, advocating and volunteering and to make our community the best place to live, work and to raise our families,” said Miller.

In addition to Miller, a slate of new LAUW Board officers and Committee Chairs was elected: Curtis Whittaker, CPA, Whittaker & Co., PLLC, vice chair and finance committee chair; Aaron McDermott, president, Latitude Commercial Real Estate, secretary; Dave Koester, project manager, BMW Constructors, allocations committee chair; John Kennedy, director of business development, American Structurepoint, campaign chair; Matt Saltanovitz, business editor, The Times, marketing and communications committee chair; Tina Ebenger, director of social sciences, Calumet College of St. Joseph, and Ariel Rivera, vice president private brands, NA Land Division, World Fuel Services, Inc., vision council co-chairs.

New Board members were also elected to three year terms. They are Christina Herrera, marketing operations manager, Horseshoe Casino Hammond; Dave Koester, project manager, BMW Constructors; Dan Murchek, deputy chief of police, Lake County Indiana Sheriff’s Department and President of the Northwest Indiana Federation of Labor; and Matt Saltanovitz, business editor, The Times.
