Unemployment rate falls in Northern Indiana metro areas in December

The state’s jobless rate fell in several metropolitan areas across Northern Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development reported the state’s jobless rate in December was 4.3%, down from 5.1% in November. The national jobless rate in December was 6.7%, which was unchanged from November.

The Elkhart-Goshen area jobless rate in December was 3.4%, down from 4.5% in December.

The Gary area’s jobless rate for December was 5.7%, down from 6.7% in November.

The Michigan City-La Porte area jobless rate in December was 5.9%, down from 6.9% in November.

The South Bend-Mishawaka area jobless rate in December was 4.9%, down from 5.9% in November.
