Indiana’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate for November was 5%, down from 5.5% in October, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Workforce Development.
The state’s labor force for November, based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data, was 3,325,870, with 3,163,343 people employed and 162,527 out of work. In October, the state’s labor force was 3,370,613, with 3,192,578 employed and 178,035 out of work.
The state said Indiana’s labor force had a net decrease of 40,274 when compared to October. This was a result of a decrease of 17,345 unemployed residents and a decrease of 22,929 employed residents. Indiana's total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, stood at 3.33 million.
The state’s 62.9% labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 61.5%.
The national jobless rate in November was 6.7%, down from 6.9% in October.
In the Elkhart-Goshen area, the November jobless rate was 4.4%, down from 4.7% in October.
The Gary area’s jobless rate for November was 6.6%, down from 6.9% in October.
The Michigan City-La Porte area jobless rate in November was 6.9%, down from 7% in October.
In the South Bend-Mishawaka area, the November jobless rate was 5.8%, down from 6.4% in October.
