Boys and Girls ClubsBoys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana and Boys & Girls Club of Michigan City are among three clubs around the state that will receive grant funding to create programming that promotes the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition.

The two Region clubs, and the Boys & Girls Club of Fort Wayne, each will receive a $5,000 in Triple Play grants from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.

Through the partnership with the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs in Indiana have made significant strides in enabling youth to reach their full potential as healthy, productive adults. When comparing Indiana club kids to national youth averages, 82 percent of club kids never drank alcohol while 37 percent of national youth reported never drinking alcohol.

“At Anthem, we understand the important role that these programs play in encouraging children and teens to be more active and make healthy choices,” said Dr. Kimberly Roop, Anthem Indiana Medicaid plan president. “Through our foundation, we are taking a proactive approach to adolescent health that takes into consideration social and environmental factors that impact well-being, and providing access to resources and support that fosters a greater awareness about the benefits of leading a healthier lifestyle that can positively impact their future.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of America‘s Triple Play wellness program is a game plan for the mind, body and soul. Supported by founding sponsor The Coca-Cola Co. and co-sponsor, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, the program's three components deliver on the belief that whole child health fosters young people's ability to gain diverse knowledge, skills, and protective factors that enable them to overcome barriers to wellness, resulting in positive future health outcomes.
